Psalm 150:1, 2, 6
Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, you heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
For several years I was part of a leadership team conducting week-long personal retreats. The daily program included gathering for a time of morning and evening worship. One of the hymns we sang during our times of worship one year became very meaningful to me. After I returned home I put the words of five stanzas on my desktop and prayed them daily for several months.
Each Sunday believers around the world gather in worship and sing one of the verses of this hymn known as the “Doxology.” The words exhort every creation of God to praise God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Few people know that this is part of a much longer hymn of fourteen stanzas written in 1709. Most hymnals list it as “Awake, My Soul.” Click here to look at some of the stanzas
and allow God to encourage and teach you.
