Quarterly Gathering Discussion

Here’s the central question for discussion at SCYMF’s quarterly meeting Oct. 20th:

Who does God want us to be?

When we come together – to pray, to encourage each other, to make promises to God and to each other, and to count and deploy our resources – who in fact are we? More to the point, who does God want us to be?

What language, scripture, or disciplines can we draw on to describe ourselves and make ourselves accessible to the world?

Some of us already come with labels – evangelical, progressive, radical, conservative – and some of those labels carry great personal meaning. But the meaning can be positive for one person and quite negative for another. Some of us are skeptical about all labels but still want to communicate what God is doing with us and invite others into the adventure.

Label or no, discerning what God wants us to become will help point the way to our next steps as a yearly meeting. The discussion will be facilitated by a task force of Sarah Katreen Hoggatt, Sue Scott, and Judy Maurer.

Come join the conversation at the next SCYMF quarterly meeting, October 20, 2018 at Eugene Friends Church.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is looking to add from 2–6 additional members. The role of this committee is to serve as financial stewards on behalf of Sierra-Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends (SCYMF). Because SCYMF is brand new, much of the committee’s work will be to respond to the rising ministries and project leadings in which God is calling SCYMF to collectively engage.

If you excel at money management, bring wisdom and discernment into your business decisions, and have a passion for stewarding financial resources to liberate people to engage in God’s transformative work, then we would love to have you join our group. Please fill out the online nominations form at https://www.scymfriends.org/nominations-form. You may also use the form to nominate others to this committee. If you have any questions, contact nominating@scymf.org.
