Pendle Hill Seeks Executive Director

A Quaker study, retreat, and conference center, Pendle Hill is the largest retreat center in the United States under the direction of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).  Founded in 1930 and located 10 miles from Philadelphia airport on 24 green acres, Pendle Hill sponsors dozens of spiritual and educational programs each year and also provides conference facilities for many others.    

We are looking for someone with organizational capability who can provide spirit-led leadership and exemplify the values and practices of the Religious Society of Friends. On Pendle Hill’s website you can see the full job description and further materials of interest.

We are especially eager to learn of possible candidates from under-represented groups to whom we should give full and careful consideration.

West Hills Friends Church is hosting a Quaker Artisan Faire to support the Friends Medical Team to Bolivia. The Quaker Artisan Faire will feature handmade jewelry, greeting cards, crocheted items, soap, baked goods and preserves, afghans and quilts and lots of handmade gifts. The Faire will be held in the Community Building on Saturday, November 9th from 11 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday, November 10th from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at 7425 SW 52nd St., Portland, OR 97219. Admission is Free.

Meet the 2019/20 Fellows for Quaker Voluntary Service. Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser. 9-11am, Saturday, November 16, West Hills Friends Church, 7425 SW 52nd Ave, 97219. Presentation at 9:30am. Suggested donation $20 or more per person. No one turned away, families contribute as led. Pancakes, eggs, sausage (GF and vegan options). Coffee, tea, juice.

The doors are open for Way of the Spirit 2020, with a new distance learning option for far flung participants. Way of the Spirit is an 18-month retreat and learning program for spiritual deepening from the wisdom of Quaker spirituality. Sierra-Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends Quarterly Gathering this winter will be at Silverton Friends Church – 229 Eureka Ave, Silverton, OR 97381 – on Saturday, February 29. More information to come.

Annual Gathering for Sierra-Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends will be this June 12–14, 2020, at Canby Grove.

Broken Vessels Quaker Ministries is happy to announce the return of the Deeper Roots program. Deborah Shaw, Deborah Fisch, and Lloyd Lee Wilson will lead a group of committed Friends in a “deep dive” into the history of our Quaker faith, a Quaker perspective on the Bible and how to benefit from it, sampling spiritual practices and disciplines valuable to Friends, and building authentic spiritual community.  Four long weekend residencies over 18 months, beginning 9/10-13, 2020, at Ben Lomond Quaker Center in California.  Suitable for seasoned Friends as well as those relatively new to Quakerism.
