Writing Opportunity – Young Adult Friends’ Spirituality

Greg Woods is guest editing the next issue of the newsletter "What Canst Thou Say" on Young Adult Friends' Spirituality.

The queries are:
  • What role has your faith/spirituality played as you traverse young adulthood? What has most surprised you about your journey?
  • What are you seeking in a spiritual community? What have been the challenges in your search? Have you found what you seek?
  • What gifts do you bring to a spiritual community?
  • Who or what has inspired you spiritually as a young adult? How has that inspiration affected your spiritual journey?
Deadline August 15, 2019

We welcome submissions of articles of 350-1500 words and artwork – line drawings or artwork suitable for black and white reproduction – that illustrate the theme of an issue, or that we might retain for use in future issues. Please send your text submissions in Word or generic text format and artwork in high resolution JPEG files. Photocopied art and typed submissions are also accepted.

Email submissions to Mike Resman,

Traveling Ministers

The Friends World Committee for Consultation Section of the Americas has organized a volunteer corps of Spanish- and English-speaking Friends, to send as traveling ministers throughout the Section, crossing Yearly Meeting lines and other divisions among Friends.

These traveling Friends share their own spiritual experience and sense of unity that is possible across the branches of Friends. They encourage Friends to learn from one another, and, following consultation and discernment with the local communities, proceed to minister through prayer, pastoral counseling and encouragement, religious education, or peace, justice and environmental concerns. Friends meet "face-to-face and heart-to-heart" to share both that which unites and that which divides them in the life of the Spirit. Open exchange builds understanding, respect, trust and love, and, with God's help, renews awareness of the worldwide family of Friends.

Becoming a Traveling Minister

Are you strongly led to offer the service of Ministry, healing, challenging and nurturing the diverse Society of Friends?

Are you willing to follow this leading further, being of service in Meetings and Churches or regional gatherings of Friends throughout the Americas?

The Traveling Ministry Corps offers the opportunity to serve in this work. Members of the Traveling Ministry Corps are chosen for their ability and commitment to work with diverse participants, their demonstrated ability to connect traditional practices with contemporary concerns, and their availability to travel across the Americas to meet with local communities.

Are you interested in applying to be a member of our Traveling Ministry Corps? Traveling Ministry Corps Applications Due September 30, 2019. Download the application form. [pdf]

Christian Peacemaker Teams sent out an urgent call for reservists and interns to go to Hebron, Palestine and support their work there. They’re looking for people with training and also interns who are interested but haven’t yet been trained. Quick turnaround: leaving Aug. 25 for a three-month commitment. The airfare and expenses are paid, but this is not a vacation! They do accompaniment for local peacemakers and monitor/document the situation as outside human rights watchers. If you’re feeling called to this work so they can continue their longstanding relationship with peacemakers in Hebron, contact monazuhairi at cpt dot org
