The Business Meeting: We Have the Mind of Christ

Getting back to basics and the core of being Quaker: group discernment. We'll look at how it is supposed to work, how differences in practice exist, and what can derail the process.

Julie Peyton was drawn to Quakers because of how they deal with authority and developed the business meeting as a positive response to Jesus's teachings. She began attending Quaker meetings in 1992, settled in to West Hills Friends and became a member in 1997. She has attended business meetings at 7 different yearly meetings, and learned much over the years. She has served (not too terribly well) as presiding clerk of West Hills, and as clerk of a couple different committees at the yearly meeting level, and as clerk of working groups for FWCC.
