Creating a community that’s affirming, Jesus-centered, and Quaker. Come join us.
We are a group of eight Quaker congregations in Washington and Oregon. We also have about 40 individual (direct) members.
Jesus was radically inclusive in his life and teachings. Sierra-Cascades is Jesus-centered and invites LGBTQIA+ people to become full participants in the life of our meeting, including in paid and volunteer leadership positions.
If you visit a meeting for worship, you can expect some prepared speaking and some time for singing together. We also value what we call open worship or unprogrammed worship. This is time we spend listening together for how the Spirit is moving. During this time, some people may be led to speak or pray or sing out loud. And sometimes, the richest experience is a deep and regenerative silence.
Hillsboro Friends holds a mid-week unprogrammed meeting for worship.
Many of our member churches offer zoom worship; we invite you to join us in person and on zoom as we seek to experience and follow Christ in the manner of Friends. The “Religious Society of Friends” is official name for Quakers.
Committees + Working Groups
Do you want to be more involved in building an intentional community? There are a variety of ways for you to use your skills and passions in service. Committees and Working Groups are a wonderful way to connect with your fellow Friends and develop a sense of purpose.
How are you moved to serve? Learn more on our Committees + Working groups page.
Sierra-Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends + Other Events
Sierra-Cascades meets every year in person for annual sessions. Annual sessions are an opportunity for inspiration, fellowship, and learning as well as meeting together to decide together how the Spirit is calling us forward in decisions for the Yearly Meeting. In this Yearly Meeting, membership is both indirect—by membership in a local church—and also direct—individual members who do not attend a member church of Sierra-Cascades.
We also hold quarterly meetings and other gatherings throughout the year. Sign up for our newsletter and visit our events page to learn more about opportunities to connect in person or virtually.
Membership
SCYMF welcomes to membership local meetings and individuals who desire to participate with SCYMF in worship, ministry, and service as we seek to experience and follow Christ in the manner of Friends. Friends of any age are welcome to request membership and follow the discernment process.
