Barclay Press

Socially conscious, Quaker, and Christian, Barclay Press publishes books, pamphlets, curriculum, and periodicals. They craft, shape, and share words that lead to change: essays, testimonies, reflections, memoir, history, polity, and poetry. Barclay Press has been publishing for Friends since 1959. It is based in Newberg, Oregon.

In 2018, Barclay Press launched Fernwood Press, the only Quaker publisher of poetry. Fernwood’s aim is to provide a home to all poets whose collections encourage the Quaker pursuit of corporate mysticism. Gathered together in centered silence, we might hear and experience truth. And we will be changed.

Since 2021, Barclay Press has managed production and distribution for Quaker Religious Thought. QRT is a print journal sponsored by the Quaker Theological Discussion Group and publishes many of the paper presentations given to the QTDG, as well as other articles and book reviews of interest to the Religious Society of Friends. QRT is published twice annually as a print journal and becomes available digitally after 18 months.

In 2022, Barclay Press acquired Inner Light Books, which was formed in 2009 to publish books by and about Quakers. Its books examine Quaker values in order to expand the knowledge of and appreciation for the faith and practice of the Religious Society of Friends.

The work of Barclay Press — as a Christian publisher in the Friends tradition — is to serve as a seed vault. To capture the essence of Quaker tools for change, experiences of change, and reflections on change, to share the words of Friends both present and past in pamphlets, devotional readers, curriculum, trade books, e-books, and booklets.

Sierra-Cascades financially supports the work of Barclay Press. We encourage all Friends to join us in this endeavor and support Barclay Press's mission to spread the word of faith.
