Workshop Descriptions

Quakers Discern Genocide in Gaza
Eight international Quaker organizations have added their voices to the growing worldwide consensus that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, and they are asking other Quaker organizations to endorse their statement. Workshop participants will work through the statement and ask, “What does the Spirit require of us?”

Resources:

Presented by Paul Parker (in person and via Zoom), former principal at Ramallah Friends School and MCC peace coordinator for Palestine.

Practicing Equality: Self and Society
We’ll consider how the testimony of Equality manifests—or doesn’t—in our daily lives and meetings, what we can do to apply this more fully and faithfully, and how it relates to the larger systems and social structures around us.

Presented by Nathan Kleban, Program & Advancement Associate for Right Sharing of World Resources (via Zoom, hybrid session).

Bolivia: Seeking Right Relation Among Indigenous Culture, Climate Change, & Quaker History
Quaker relations between Bolivia (the poorest South American country) and America (the wealthiest North American country) demonstrate the difficult intersection of Indigeneity, Quaker evangelism, colonialism, capitalism, economic inequality, education, and climate change. We look to discover how others are weaving a new tapestry from both Western health, education, technology & Indigenous community, right relation, and simplicity.

Presented by Andrew and Janet Franklin (in person and via Zoom), Members of Camas Friends, after their summer learning trip to Bolivia.
